The Problem

The current mehod of taping masking paper to the lights requires the partial removal of the light fixture. Three problems arise. Standard recessed lights require springs. These springs take time and effort to fix correctly after completion of painting. Often on the first attempt, the springs pop out and require additional attempts to correct. The heat of the bulbcauses almost all tape to lose its adhesive properties over the course of the work day. this often requires the painters to rush their work. Rushed work leads to mistakes and a low quality painting job. Heat also has an negative on dry masking paper and with the masking paper being in such close proximity to the hot light bulbs, the likelyhood of fires increase the longer the tape is kept on. Now add flammable paint and painting products to the mix and this is a serious problem waiting to occour.

The Solution

We've designed a one piece domed plastic cover that uses an integral circular flange which secures the cover to the light fixture. Its see though design allows the lighting fixture to be either off or on allowing the painter more light to paint by. . The shield's shape has the same circular shape and size as the standard recessed lighting lighting fixture ranging in size from 4 to 22 inches in diameter and covers the entire light fixture and even extends beyond the flange preventing the paint or cleaning solutions from touching the lighting fixture or the light bulb.The shield easily installs with one hand allowing the painter to maintain one hand on the ladder at all times. The shields dome shape has three functions, one is that the sheilds dome shape allows the user to easily stack the sheilds and transport them the the cylindrical case. Secondly the dome shape allows the sheild to work with both fully recessed lights and lights that protrude past the face of the fixture. Third, the dome shape promotes a uniformed dripping pattern to control the dripping pattern of paint, and or other solutions. The robust plastic resists flame and heat damage and also has a stout handle at the tip of the dome for easy insertion into and retrieval from the light fixture.
